Sex Offender Checks in Montgomery County
The Illinois State Police Statewide Sex Offender Database is the primary source. ISP says it updates daily from registration data in LEADS. Search by name when identifying a person, by Montgomery County for a county list, or through the map for an address-centered view. The Sheriff page links users back to this state system rather than maintaining a separate verified local list.
Begin with first and last name, then compare aliases, birth information, physical descriptors, photograph history, and registering agency. For geography, use the current county or map result. An old downloaded list can miss an address or status change.
Montgomery County Registration Offices
Jurisdiction determines where an Illinois registrant reports. A person living inside Litchfield, Hillsboro, or Nokomis city limits registers with that city's police department. A person at an unincorporated Montgomery County address registers with the Sheriff's Office. The local agency forwards data through LEADS for ISP's public system.

The Sheriff does not publish dedicated registration-counter hours or an appointment rule. Call before appearing. Members of the public who suspect an error should contact the registering agency printed on the profile.
How to Search the Illinois State Police Statewide Sex Offender Database
The ISP gateway first presents its conditions of use and requires AGREE or DO NOT AGREE. After agreement, the live search supports identity, place, status, homeless, and offender-type filters. Illinois does not label public results with federal Tier I, II, or III categories.
- Open the ISP disclaimer, read the warning, and choose AGREE to reach the search.
- Enter first and last name, or choose Montgomery County, a city, ZIP, or map location.
- Compare aliases, date of birth, photograph, descriptors, and status before selecting a match.
- Open the full profile and verify the address and status with the registering agency shown.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Name | Text | No | ISP recommends beginning with first and last name. |
| Last Name | Text | No | Can be combined with other fields. |
| Date Of Birth | Date/text | No | Use to narrow a possible name match. |
| City / Zip Code | Text | No | Limits results to an Illinois place. |
| County, Incarcerated or Out of State | Dropdown | No | Select Montgomery for county results. |
| Status / Homeless / Offender Type | Dropdown or checkbox | No | Applies the selected statutory or status filter. |
| Map Your Neighborhood | Address or map | No | Shows qualifying results within five miles of a point. |

Montgomery Name and Geography Searches
A name search asks whether the displayed identity fields match a known person. A geography search asks which public profiles fall within a selected county, city, ZIP, or map radius. These modes are not interchangeable. A county filter can include municipal and unincorporated addresses, while a map pin depends on the point and coordinates supplied.
Use care near county and city boundaries. Registration jurisdiction depends on the actual address, not the nearest town name. The ISP map is better than assuming one police department's jurisdiction covers every nearby result. Selecting a yellow map marker opens profile detail in a side pane.
Inside a Registry Profile
The public profile presents the fields Illinois law selects for disclosure. It can include name, photograph, aliases, birth or age data, physical descriptors, registered address, compliance status, offender classification, registration dates, registering agency, offense details, conviction jurisdiction, scars or tattoos, vehicle information, and public employment or school registration data.
| Name and aliases | Primary name plus aliases and alias birth information where displayed. |
|---|---|
| Photo and description | Dated photographs, sex, race, height, weight, hair, eyes, and identifying marks. |
| Registered address | Current public address status, including homeless, incarcerated, or out-of-state context. |
| Offense and statute | Description, citation, conviction or adjudication date, jurisdiction, and public victim-age category. |
| Illinois category | Sex offender, sexual predator, sexually dangerous person, or sexually violent person as applicable. |
| Registration status | Compliance and registration-related dates plus the registering agency. |
Verify Montgomery Registry Identity
A name alone is not enough. Compare date of birth, aliases, height, weight, hair, eyes, scars, tattoos, and dated photographs. Photo history can help confirm identity, but an older image does not prove current appearance. Vehicle or school information should also be treated as reported registration data, not as a reason for direct contact.
“Compliant” describes the registration status recorded by the system. It is not an ISP finding that a person presents no risk. Conversely, the database warning says inclusion results from qualifying conviction or adjudication and Illinois law, not an individualized ISP assessment of current dangerousness or likelihood of reoffending.
The profile may direct users to the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk for conviction-case details or to IDOC for custody and supervision status. Those sources answer questions the registry does not.
Illinois Registration Levels and Requirements
Illinois uses statutory categories and circumstances, not a three-tier public table. Duration and reporting frequency can change through reconfinement, later offenses, violations, administrative extensions, or another qualifying duty. The controlling duration law is 730 ILCS 150/7; reporting and change rules appear in 730 ILCS 150/6.
| Illinois category or circumstance | Duration | Verification baseline |
|---|---|---|
| Other registrant not made lifetime by §7 | 10 years after conviction if not confined, or after parole, discharge, or release | Annually in person; changes generally within 3 days |
| Sexual predator | Natural life | Annually unless a separate quarterly rule applies |
| Sexually dangerous or sexually violent person | Natural life | Every 90 days |
| No fixed residence | Underlying duration | Weekly in person plus other applicable reporting |
| Failure to comply | Director extends registration by 10 years from first registration after violation | Depends on category and violation rule |
Montgomery Registration Fees and Address Rules
ISP's FAQ states an initial $100 registration fee and a $100 annual fee. These are registrant fees, not search charges. Public registry searching is free, and inability to pay does not end the registration duty. Confirm local payment handling with the registering agency.
Residency restrictions are status and offense specific. Under 720 ILCS 5/11-9.3, a child sex offender faces 500-foot rules involving listed schools, playgrounds, child-care facilities, facilities serving minors, and the victim, subject to statutory definitions, grandfathering, and exceptions. Measurement is generally property edge to property edge.
An ISP map marker cannot decide whether the statute applies. Parcel boundaries, facility status, offender classification, ownership date, and exceptions all matter. The responsible registering agency or court record is the source for a specific legal status.
National Search for Montgomery Results
The DOJ's Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website federates participating state, territorial, and tribal registries. Its basic name search requires first and last name. Advanced searching accepts county, city or town, up to five ZIP codes, jurisdiction, or Indian Country filters. Address-radius searching requires address, city, state, and distance, but only jurisdictions supplying geographic coordinates participate.
The official NSOPW national registry search appears below.

Verify an NSOPW result on ISP because Illinois owns and updates the source record.
NSOPW offers official mobile apps with device-location radius searching. No official ISP source inspected exposed a Montgomery County email proximity-alert signup.
Community Notification and Lawful Use
The Sex Offender Community Notification Law, including 730 ILCS 152/115, authorizes the statewide public database and mapping system. Local authorities also make notices to schools, child-care facilities, and other entities as the Act directs. Public access supports personal, family, neighborhood, and community awareness.
Do not harass or threaten: ISP expressly forbids using registry information to harass or threaten a registrant or family. Stalking, threats, intimidation, vigilantism, or another criminal act can be prosecuted under applicable Illinois law.
The ISP registry disclaimer is shown below.

Its warning also explains that information can change and should be verified with the registering agency.
Do not contact a listed person or household to investigate a profile. Report an immediate danger to law enforcement. For an apparent data error, call the agency named on the listing. The public registry is a safety tool, not a complete Montgomery County criminal-history file.
